Information about AU 2020 – Magical Mystery Tour – The BIMsider

Phil Puccio

This year I’m of course doing a technical demo session for # AU2020, since it’s 2020 it won’t be a normal AU session!

Much will be different this year, at the beginning most of the sessions or courses have already been recorded and will be published all at once as “On Demand” sessions (over 750 of them) starting November 17th at 9:00 am Pacific time. There will continue to be live keynote sessions, as well as panel and roundtable sessions, which will also be live (over 350 live sessions). The AU team has posted a full schedule that allows you to browse through all the sessions and bookmark them for future references once the content becomes available on November 17th. You think that’s planned HERE

So my course fits in here, it will be a session on Dynamo, as the title suggests “Dynamo is not magic, but these tips and tricks may seem magical”. Since this is a teaching demo, it has already been recorded and will be available for all to view on Tuesday, November 17 at 9:00 a.m. PT. Now you can AU planned above, to find and bookmark my session, you can also just click the session title above to go straight to the Session page. The session page is for the video when it comes out, as well as the handout and class presentation (again available from November 17th). The content of the session will also be available on my website, along with all of my previous handouts and presentations under the Speaking tab.

At the time of this post, version 2.3 is the most up-to-date for the handout and presentation

There will also be a “live” portion of my session in the form of a 1-hour Q&A session on Friday, November 20 at 11:00 am PT (2:00 pm ET). You can send a calendar invitation from the Session pagewhere you can also attend the meeting on the 20th.

Now the session itself is about Dynamo tips and tricks, and to put them together I contacted many AEC Industry and Dynamo AllStars to submit their tips and tricks to share with the community in my session … and boy did they deliver!

A GIGANTIC Thanks to all Dynamo AllStars who shared some of their tips & tricks for this session!

Session description:

In this session, we’re going to explore some Dynamo tips and tricks to improve your workflow, make your graphics more efficient, and maybe even add a little fun to your day.

We’re going to look at some simple tips that you can easily incorporate into your daily workflow to add automation and increase efficiency. We’ll also examine some more complicated tips and tricks that are less general and are designed for specific AECO workflows. We’ll also spend some time looking at tricks that take advantage of the latest Dynamo updates, including Dynamo extensions for Dynamo 2.x. Then we’ll look at some of the packages that make these tips and tricks possible.

While the general flow of this course is exploratory and fun, the tips and tricks discussed can help increase the efficiency and productivity of your daily Dynamo workflow.

learning goals:

  • Learn some new tips for your daily Dynamo workflows and diagrams
  • Find out what some of the new features are in the latest version of Dynamo
  • Find out more about some of the great Dynamo packages and extensions available for Dynamo 2.x.
  • Learn some new tricks to improve your graphics efficiency in Dynamo 2.x.

A little secret about recording my session, I was told to just approach the recording like I was doing it live so I made a recording and that’s it. I’ve gone maybe a minute or two past my 60 minutes, and there’s a special appearance from my tomcat Taz … back 15 slides super fast. At the end of the recording, I had a chat with the sound engineer who was working on my recording and we both agreed to leave this in the session as it really suits a 2020 session recording.
