Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) is the strongest concrete available today. Until now, however, UHPC could not be mixed, transported or poured like conventional concrete, so contractors and construction professionals are reluctant to use it.

Cor-Tuf UHPC is a proprietary UHPC mix that overcomes all barriers associated with traditional UHPC products. Cor-Tuf UHPC can be mixed, transported and poured like conventional concrete – even with the same machines.

As the global UHPC market is expected to have a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.3 percent in the next five years and the strong ones State support To use UHPC, contractors and builders need to familiarize themselves with the material and the options available.

Cor-Tuf UHPC vs. conventional UHPC

Cor-Tuf UHPC is superior to conventional blends in many ways.

Mass production using conventional methods

Many conventional UHPC compounds cannot be mass-produced. In fact, many produce their UHPC in 50 pound bags, which can quickly become a problem when working on large concrete structures.

However, Cor-Tuf UHPC is suitable for the masses. We use super bags that hold around a ton of material in one batch. In addition to using Super Sacks, we also design our batch systems for mixing and distributing in a silo style, in order to pour larger batches more efficiently and cost-effectively.

Many conventional UHPC products are not flowable; in other words, they cannot be poured. Therefore, many of them were not used on large projects such as bridges and piles.

Cor-Tuf UHPC is different. It is flowable, pourable and pumpable! So it can (and has been) used to make large structures. It pours like regular concrete, but you get all the added benefits in terms of strength, durability, and workability.

Small batches require constant measuring and mixing of ingredients to ensure you get the firmness and flowability you need in the end product. If this is done in small 50 pound sacks, the margin of error becomes quite high.

Think how many batches you would have to mix for a bridge or other large structure. It becomes almost impossible to ensure that every batch is identical. This makes the end product prone to deviations that have a negative impact on quality and durability.

Because Cor-Tuf UHPC is manufactured in large quantities, these consistency problems do not exist. You get a consistent blend every time so you can be sure you’re getting the strength and quality that you have come to expect.

Testing has proven the durability of Cor-Tuf. There is also no delimitation between the batches. For example, if you are pouring a large beam and need to use multiple batches, you can use conventional UHPC mixes or even conventional concrete to create a boundary between concretes. There are no cold joints with Cor-Tuf UHPC.

Cold joints are weak points that occur when the first batch of concrete solidifies before the next batch is poured so that the batches do not adhere properly to one another. When Cor-Tuf is used, you get a uniform piece throughout. This makes the end product stronger overall and less prone to deterioration.

Mixing time

Conventional UHPC typically takes 20 minutes to mix. Combine that with the problem of the small batch process and you end up with a lot of downtime on a job site. Pouring is done in stages, a process that reduces quality and results in workers sitting idly waiting for the next batch to be ready.

However, Cor-Tuf UHPC mixes in about five minutes and in much larger batches. Website downtime is practically eliminated.

Many contractors and construction companies hesitate to use a new product like UHPC because they don’t want to change their familiar processes or machines. This is completely understandable. Your employees are used to a certain process and know how to operate existing machines efficiently and safely.

While many conventional UHPC products cannot be mixed, poured, or transported using standard machinery, Cor-Tuf UHPC can. Indeed we have recently conducted tests demonstrate this.

In these tests, Cor-Tuf UHPC was blended in a standard mass production batch facility. From there it was transported in a standard Tuckerbilt van and poured – just like conventional concrete.

working time

Most conventional UHPC products have a processing time of less than an hour. This leads to logistical problems, especially when it comes to small batches that take 20 minutes to mix.

Cor-Tuf UHPC has a working time of well over an hour. Better still, the product can be engineered to lengthen or shorten this time as needed for a specific project. This makes workplaces more efficient and relieves the logistics of the supply chain.

Cor-Tuf UHPC can be developed into a unique mix design to meet the needs of any project. The strength increase comes from the proprietary combination of integrated fibers that have been incorporated into the blend. A variety of fibers can be used to achieve the desired strength.

If you need a self-leveling mix or if you want the concrete to stand up after pouring, Cor-Tuf UHPC can be laid out either way. We can also adjust the mix to increase or decrease the processing time after pouring. There are infinitely many variations. You get exactly the mix you need for each job.

Quality control

With a non-proprietary mix, there is no guarantee of what you will get. Variations in quality and mix can ruin a project.

Cor-Tuf UHPC has strict quality control procedures; it’s a company priority. We know the importance of consistency to become the most reliable UHPC provider in the world. The product is only available through licensed dealers and distributors, each of whom is thoroughly informed about the product.

We train everyone in the field, from salespeople to those who pour on the website. We work hand in hand with newly certified distributors and accompany them through the entire process. We even accompany them on the construction site for months to ensure that the quality of the end product is absolutely undisputed.

To encourage this educational effort, we are also establishing an educational facility in Florida. Cor-Tuf UHPC is 100 percent committed to strict quality controls and procedures.

Contractors and builders no longer have to do without UHPC in projects. Cor-Tuf UHPC is free flowing and can be mixed in large batches. All of this can be done with conventional concrete machines. The immense strength and other advantages of UHPC are now possible with every concrete pour – without changing your processes or machines. The future of concrete is here!
