how much does a concrete slab cost

I’ll break them down for you below so you can estimate what a concrete slab could cost you.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE “CONCRETE SLAB VS. CONCRETE FLOOR”?

A slab of concrete is poured directly onto a gravel pad and the edges are shaped with 2×4’s, 2×6’s, 2×8’s, etc.

A concrete floor is poured into a concrete foundation, ICF walls, cement block walls, I think you get it.

I will tell you what I do and don’t include in my concrete slab prices and give you an idea of what that is “Costs extra” is for some of the things not included in the regular cost of concrete slabs.

When trying to estimate the cost of a concrete slab, the first thing you should do is consult your local building codes. They may have specific guidelines you need to follow to install a concrete slab in your area.

Basic costs for concrete slabs

MY UPDATED PRICES!

I will be basing my price on my actual estimate to install a 6 inch thick concrete slab for one of my clients.

Base cost for a 6 inch thick concrete slab – $6.00 per square foot

Take the length of the concrete slab x the width of the slab to get the total square count.

Multiply the total square footage by 6 (dollars) to get the total price.

L x W x $6.00 in this example.

So a 32′ x 24′ x 6″ thick concrete slab would cost $4608.00

Included in my concrete slab price:

1. 3000 PSI CONCRETE WITH 3/4 INCH SCRAP

2. 6″ (INCHES) THICK CONCRETE

3. FIBER MESH IN CONCRETE FOR REINFORCEMENT

4. A DOUBLE ROW OF 1/2″ REBAR ON THE EDGES

5. WORK TO FORM THE EDGES WITH 2×6’S

6. WORK TO POUR AND FINISH THE CONCRETE

7. SAWN CONTRACTION JOINTS

8. CONCRETE CURING AGENT

9. CONCRETE ANCHORS

Those are the basics materials and labor included in the cost of a concrete slab.

What makes the cost go up

Common things that will Add at the cost of $6.00 per square foot for a concrete slab

4. WIRE MESH INSTEAD OF FIBER MESH – ADD $0.35 PER SQUARE FEET

5. PUMP TRUCK IF CONCRETE TRUCK CAN’T REACH – ADD $900.00 TO TOTAL PRICE (approximately)

Having your concrete slab only 4″ thick instead of 6″ reduces the overall cost of the slab by $0.50 per square foot to $5.50 per square foot.

Any dirt work and grading of the substructure would incur additional costs as would Adding radiant heat to the concrete slab.

Use these prices as a general guide only, always get three estimates from local concrete contractors to compare slab prices and remember to check references.

I make anywhere from 50 to 100 concrete slabs a year, most concrete slab estimates I do cost between $5.50 and $9.50 per square foot as I detailed above.

Formed concrete slab ready for pouringConcrete slab that we have shaped and ready to pour.
