Frequently asked questions about home packaging

What is a house foil?

A house wrap is a cloth, paper, or cardboard material that covers the outer siding of house walls to protect the wall frames. It prevents moisture from entering the wall void, especially since cladding cannot ward off all wind-driven rain.

Does my house need it?

Most siding installations do not require the addition of house siding, but building codes in certain areas may require it as part of the exterior walls. Homes in cold climates may also require a house wrap. Then again your chosen siding and Metal roofers has the final say on whether it is required or not.

Is there more than one type of house packaging?

As it turns out, there are several different types of house wraps used in new home construction and siding replacements. Felt paper impregnated with asphalt was used first, the same material used as a base for roofing. Today there are more options available including plastic house wraps made from woven polyethylene or polypropylene fibers and rigid foam insulation boards.

What does house foil not do?

A house foil is a waterproof barrier that lies between the outer lining of the house wall and the lining material. It is not usually impervious or watertight, meaning the wall can shed moisture if it gets from elsewhere behind it to prevent damaging the wall cavity.
