New England Metal Systems and Drexel Metals won the Metal Roofing Alliance’s Best Metal Roofing Project competition this quarter for a beautiful and complex project completed on a prominent New England home.
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA) has selected New England Metal Systems and Drexel metals as the winner of the competition for the best metal roofing project for residential buildings in the second quarter of 2020.
The winning project includes the installation of a new metal roof on a contemporary 1992 New Hampshire craftsman’s house. The owners chose metal roofs not only for their durability, but also to highlight the stylish architecture and unique design elements of the home. The new roof will also help keep the house better protected during the cold New England winters, when heavy snow and ice will continue to be the norm for many decades. Installed over the original asphalt roof of the house, the owners chose a 24-gage galvalume standing seam metal roof with a snap lock, manufactured by MRA member Drexel Metals. Despite the house’s rounded roofs, curved dashboards, and custom-made pie-shaped panels, it took New England Metal Systems just under a week to complete the job.
“Our family business has specialized in metal standing seam roofs for over 20 years, and when I first consulted this homeowner, I knew this was a project I wanted to make,” said Chris Leighton, owner and operator of New England Metal Systems. “I was thrilled and inspired by the complexity and challenge. I love the end result and am proud that this project is recognized by the Metal Roofing Alliance. “
With the end of the competition in the second quarter, the search is now on to find the best metal roof project for residential buildings for the next quarter. Open to contractors, installers and manufacturers in the US and Canada, MRA officials will select a standout metal roof project based on the appearance, performance and originality / use of materials. Interested attendees can upload their project photo, along with a 200 word or less description of why their metal roofing project deserves the highest award, online at metalroofing.com. The next quarter’s winner will be announced in September and only metal roofing projects for residential buildings in the US and Canada will be considered.
