Marmox Limited’s recently launched ‘The Tilebacker’ board was selected by a specialist subcontractor working on a very large residential building in Maidstone to create a total of five bathrooms and en-suite shower rooms.

Locally based J. Jupp Tiling operates across Kent and the capital, primarily under domestic contracts, and has long used Marmox products, including the manufacturer’s widely used Multiboards. With around 130 m 2 of wall surface to be worked on and an already fixed 22 mm thick structural layer as the substrate, switching to the new, inexpensive alternative made practical and economic sense.

Director Josh Jupp comments, “I have been using Marmox products, including Multiboard, along with tapes and fasteners for a long time and have always found them very reliable for the high quality residential projects we are involved in. I like the new Tilebacker, which is relatively lighter and even easier to cut than the Multiboard, and it seemed perfect for the Maidstone house where we work for a private developer. The Tilebacker panels will soon be covered with Italian tiles in the format 1200 x 1200 x 6 mm, which will create a really striking interior. This was a successful first attempt with the new boards and I plan to use them again for our next job with more than 300m2 of tiles, including three very large bathrooms. “

Available in a thickness of 10 mm as well as the 6 mm version used by J. Jupp Tiling in Maidstone, the lightweight panels measure 600 x 1250 mm and are made from an extruded polystyrene base covered with a double layer of glass fiber fabric that is wrapped in a Polymer is embedded in cement surface.

The panels are easily cut to size and laid on a full bed of floor and wall adhesive, while dowels, screws and washers are used to secure them to existing wood or concrete substrates. In areas prone to moisture, Marmox Waterproof Tape can be used to seal joints, while Marmox Reinforcement Tape provides extra strength when The Tilebacker is used in flooring.

If mosaic tiles smaller than 50 mm square are used, these should be pre-glued to fiberglass or fabric. In all cases, the low heat transfer coefficient of 0.034 W / mK helps reduce heat loss and control condensation.
